Numerical Simulation of Disks Surrounding Massive Stars

Project Description (Abstract):
There are a variety of projects immediately available for graduate students at both the Master’s and Doctoral levels. These projects are focused on building computer models of disks that surround certain types of massive stars using numerical simulations. These simulations can follow changes in the disk with time, for example, during disk building or dissipation. Existing computer codes are combined with the output from the numerical simulations to predict observables. Actual observations, obtained by a variety of technologies such as interferometry, polarization and spectroscopy, are then used to constrain our model predictions. The results of this work will help to better understand the wide variety of astrophysical disks in the observable universe.
