- Useful web pages for international students
- P&A activities for international students
Welcome to my webpages.
I am a faculty member in the Department of Physics & Astronomy of the University of Western Ontario. My main interests are physics education, international education and developing undergraduate physics laboratories.
My work in the Physics and Astronomy Department:
- Director of the First Year Physics Laboratory
Physics & Astronomy department at Western hosts the largest first year undergraduate laboratories in Canada with close to 2000 students. My work in this position involves curriculum development for all the first year laboratories, developing novel and inquiry based laboratories for physics courses targeted to the physical sciences, engineering and biological sciences, and the general management of the laboratory. I am also an academic counselor to physics students. The first year laboratory recruits about 30 international and local graduate students every year as teaching assistants (TAs) and I conduct a thorough TA training program in the laboratory to maintain the high quality of teaching. This TA training program also offers high level of individual guidance and activities that orient international teaching assistants to the standards of classroom instruction in Canadian universities.
I organize and conduct many outreach activities for high school students, teachers and the community. I support local and national science fairs by mentoring science fair students.
- International Education Coordinator
In this newly appointed position (July 2011) I will work on the following areas:
promoting internationalization of Physics & Astronomy department and the university; building educational partnerships with international universities; developing exchange programs for physics and astronomy students; helping to improve international undergraduate and graduate student recruitment; building a support structure for international undergraduate and graduate students within the department and local community.
If you are an international student who is interested in applying for undergraduate or graduate studies in physics or Astronomy please follow the web links from our Physics and Astronomy departmental web pages.
