Measurement of Meteoroid Mass Influx to Earth

Project Description (Abstract):

The purpose of this project is to use optical observations from EMCCD multi-station cameras to estimate the mass influx to the Earth based on a large dataset of multi-station meteor detections. The goal will be to refine the total mass accumulated by the Earth from meteoroids and compare this mass estimate to other techniques, such as radar, in-situ satellite impacts, aeronomy estimates and IDP influx estimates.

The student will perform data reduction and calibration of automatically detected faint meteors from the EMCCD software pipeline and estimate meteoroid mass and uncertainty.

Use of existing programs in C for meteor photometry reduction as well as Python and Matlab for prototype processing will be required.
