Welcome to our community outreach web pages. The Department of Physics & Astronomy is pleased to bring the sciences of physics and astronomy to a wide audience outside of the university community. Exploring the Stars runs all year round, giving talks about Astronomy on many topics and running tours of the Cronyn Observatory. School or community groups can sign up for presentations and tours. There are also Saturday evening public nights at the observatory. These astronomy public nights are weekly from May through August and monthly during the rest of the year. You can find out more by clicking on the links in the menu on the right side of this page. We welcome schools for visits, and offer Physics & Astronomy Days for high school students. We sponsor the annual Elizabeth Laird Memorial Lecture which brings a leading physicist to campus to share the excitement of his or her research with the general public.
Department activities are chronicled on our News page, with videos and podcasts here. You can find out what the Purple Crow Lidar project is doing via its
blog, Twitter feed and Facebook page. We have compiled some links to general interest astronomy information for your enjoyment. For volunteer opportunities for students please click on the appropriate link under 'Volunteer'.
